Poetry

Xy had her sixth graders write poetry. They were to write cinquains, somewhat in the style invented by Adelaide Crapsey, but simplified: one word for the first line, two for the second, three, four, then back to the one word for the last line.

Here are three examples, which I offer — after some reflection — without editorial comment.

War
shooting killing
boom, boom, boom
mad at the president
peace

Audult
Caring, carful
yelling, fussing, laughing
Stressed out from work
disappointment

Teachers are Evil

Teachers are Evil, Evil enough
Teachers are smart opposite of
Dum. Teachers are cray, crazy like
Pets Teachers are tall, tall like
the hall, teachers are mini mee
people.
