Today it’s been a year since Helen was killed, and like Cristin, I don’t know quite what to say.
The superintendent of police was on TV last night saying that they had a suspect, but he couldn’t reveal anything more about the case. To be honest, my first thought was: He’s lying. It’s been a year, and I despair of ever knowing who killed Helen, much less that the responsible party would ever be brought to trial.
If you’re in the New Orleans area, you might want to tune in to WYES tonight to catch a new film about Helen’s life and art. I guess this will also be airing on other PBS affiliates in time, so check your local listings.
We will never forget you, Helen.

I think of Helen every day. I have a picture of her and Francis in my studio, watching over me with her big, warm smile. It helps to remind me to smile more, and not take things so seriously. I also recently received a picture of Francis laughing over a doughnut, and I was so happy to see that her smile is living on right there, in her little boy.
You are right, we will never forget her.
Of course the superintendent of police is lying, just like he lies about everything else. The police will not release figures on the number of people shot in New Orleans because if he did poeple would freak out and never come back home or move here. Warren Reilly is about as worthless as they come. I can’t wait until C Ray is out of office with the hope that the next mayor will appoint a decent chief.
Hopefully that show will come to WTIU as well, I have been sending them constant reminders.
The world remains out of balance with Helen’s absence. I would sure love to see her smile.

I wish we could have seen, here in Conway, the episode with Helen. God Bless the people in New Orleans who have suffered so much: First, the rich squeeze them, them the sotrm does, then the rich squeeze them again.
Bart, is there a chance someone will upload it to you tube?? parts of it at least?? I had no luck finding it locally.
WLAE-Channel 32 will rebroadcast the documentary “Helen Hill: Celebrating a Life in Film” January 18 at 7 p.m., followed at 8 p.m. by a one-hour live call in program about Hill’s murder and New Orleans’ homicide crisis.
The call-in show will be hosted by Tom Bagwill and feature representatives from the New Orleans Police Department, District Attorney’s office and the Metropolitan Crime Commission.

Sorry, Kittee, all Riley said was there was a suspect, and that he could offer no further comment. I’ve spoken to a couple reporters who have voiced surprise when I told them about this.
