Every month, the Octavia Science Fiction Club meets at Octavia Books. Our reading selections are chosen by our members on a rotating basis, organized around a loose theme. The best by far was Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell. In fact this is one of the best books I’ve read recently. It’s structurally innovative, stylistically dazzling, and brings a surprising and fierce morality. It’s not marketed as science fiction, but our group has never been shy about raiding the front of the store for reading material. However, it meets Steve’s Criterion: There’s a ray gun in there, so it qualifies.
I was less enthralled The Hacker and the Ants by Rudy Rucker. However, the group seemed to like it.
Finally there was Just a Couple of Days by Tony Vigorito. I didn’t read this, but the group consensus seemed to be that it sucked.
