This just in from my father:
With all the fun you’re having pre-game, I want to share a little game I played with my cousins, Allen and Francie when I was in my early teens in Wisconsin. One of us would enter the Grainary where another would be in the attic making noise.
The downstairs person would say: “who dat up dere?”
The attic person would say “Who dat down dere?”
Then the downstairs person would say (the punch line): “Who dat dat say dat last who dat?”I think we were vaguely aware of a song that was kind of popular then, like now, incorporating part or all of our lyrics. Anyway, we got a big kick out of it, circa 1948.
Which just serves to further demonstrate how ridiculous the NFL’s recent attempt to claim ownership of the phrase was. Good thing they backed down.
Thanks for sharing Dad! Too bad you’re rooting for the wrong team tomorrow…

My brother (Grandpa Ray) has a great memory! Back in “the day” it was a funny song. (Seems like I also remember pictures of pairs of huge white eyes shining in the dark that went with it.) How times have changed….. If it was sung publicly today – by the colts fans – not sure if it’d seem so funny!
It’s funny–my dad was just telling me the other day that HIS dad (my grandfather) used to say this–“Who dat say dat last who dat?”
I had no idea how far back it went!
