I am happy to announce that our house is finally secure for the first time in many months. Our four downstairs doors had no locks. In fact one of the doors fell off its hinges a couple months ago. The only thing keeping trespassers out has been luck. But I got new knobs and deadbolts, and our contractor finally got them installed.
Unfortunately that has revealed a new problem.
See, Mike sent me to pick out the hardware on my own. I should have known this was trouble.
Oh goodness baby! You and my Betty in Home Depot would be a great duo. *shudders*

Perhaps you should have consulted J with the lock-set dillema there?
i dont know if they are open post storm but h. rault locksmiths on magazine st allways had beaucoup hardware for old doors. you could fill that hole where the old mortise lock was and put in a new deadbolt above it.
i meant fill the hole with another mortise lock.
Rault is open and they’re great; especially when it comes to aged hardware. Good suggestion, Rick.
H. Rault? Yes indeed, that’s where I bought the knob pictured above. Actually it was a strange experience. They kept smirking like they knew something I didn’t. They were very friendly but somehow made me feel like an idiot. Which, apparently, I am.
I bought deadbolts already, though you can’t see them in this picture. Four deadbolts and four knobs. It adds up. I’m keeping the deadbolts, but I’m not sure about the knobs. Some friends have suggested a plate could be added to make these knobs work.

It is ashamed that this country has lost focused on what is important during these election debates. On every major media source, on line, radio and TV talk shows, everyone is talking about the war this, or the war that.. It make me mad that nobody is talking about Katrina, New Orleans, the gulf coast and FEMA and how this adminstration clearly showed its true colors at home in a time when it was even more important than most of the Iraq stuff. Here is what I am going to be posting at these sites:
